太陽系外發現地球

美國國家航空暨太空總署（NASA）美東時間23日中午（台北時間星期五午夜）透過新聞視訊會議宣布克卜勒太空望遠鏡的最新發現：距離地球1400光年的太陽系外行星克卜勒452b（Kepler 452b）是科學家迄今發現可能最像地球的行星。

克卜勒452b位在天鵝座，位於適居帶，約60億歲，體積約為地球的1.5倍，以相當於地球和太陽間的距離繞行一顆恆星運轉。

60億歲 體積約地球1.5倍

航太總署在事前發布簡短新聞稿：「系外行星，特別是地球大小般的天體，21年前只存在於科幻小說中」。言下之意，經由實證，今天人類已經確知這類行星確實存在。所謂「21年」，指的是人類在1995年首次發現太陽系外行星，它們繞著恆星運行，就像我們居住的地球繞著太陽運行一樣。

克卜勒望遠鏡由美國航太總署在2009年3月6日發射，總計要花費美金6億元（約台幣180億元），任務是經由恆星的光度以檢測是否有行星存在，即通稱的凌日（Transit）現象。舉例言，在一定時間，從地球上可觀察到有一個黑點從太陽通過，即可得知在地球與太陽之間有其他行星（金星、水星）。

繞行恆星 位處適居帶

2013年5月15日，克卜勒太空望遠鏡的反應輪故障，無法設定望遠鏡方向，不得不停止搜尋系外行星克，但已發現1028顆行星，另有3033顆可能的行星。它們的大小、繞行軌道距離不一。

視訊會議涵蓋美國東岸、西岸以及英國。東岸是華盛頓，NASA的副總署長John Grunsfeld；西岸有2位，1位是加州Moffett Field研究中心的數據分析師Jon Jenkins，1位是加州Mountain View研究中心的分析科學家Jeff Coughlin；在英國的是劍橋大學的天文物理學教授Didier Queloz。視訊會議開放音頻供全球各地收聽。

NASA的首席科學家Ellen Stofan曾說，也許20至30年，地球的人類就會發現外星人或外星的生物。
